Both hospitals in Colorado Springs have been accredited by a national organization for breast care.

Penrose-St. Francis Health Services and Memorial Health System received full, three-year accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons.

This is Memorial’s first year to be recognized for the program, while Penrose has received the designation before.

Accreditation by the NAPBC is given to centers that undergo a rigorous evaluation process and voluntary review of their performance.

NABPC-accredited centers must have: comprehensive care, a multidisciplinary, team approach and information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options.

Colorado has nine accredited breast care centers.
