A downtown shop owner has decided to close her doors once and for all.
Jeanne Galvin closed her Mt. Tejon shop downtown in the early spring and reopened in the same location before the start of the summer season as Tillie & Toad. Her clothing and consignment business didn’t catch on the way she wanted.
So she’s taken a job on the other side of the counter, selling items wholesale to other shop owners, she said.
Tillie & Toad, at 125 ½ N. Tejon St., will remain open until Christmas, Galvin said. But then she’ll shutter the shop doors for the last time.
“It was the economy,” she said. “We got tired of putting our own money into it to keep it going.”
The entire store inventory is 30 percent off, she said.
Four other stores on Tejon Street have closed this year: Drama, Mrs Field’s Cookies, Couture and Bryan and Scott Jewelers. Johannes Hunter Jewelers moved its Tejon Street location to North Nevada.
