Private equity becomes part of Republican presidential debate

The private equity industry is now being scrutinized as part of the presidential debate – as contenders attack Mitt Romney’s past at Bain Capital, reports the New York Times.

Romney’s opponents are attacking the industry, saying it costs jobs and carves up companies.

The attacks have “unnerved” the CEOs of buyout firms, particularly those who have contributed to the Republican party.
