Bach will host monthly meetings with City Council

Mayor Steve Bach will meet monthly with the Colorado Springs City Council in what he is calling the “Mayor’s Counsel.”

The idea, he said, is that the City Council might need some counseling from him and he might need some counseling from them.

“We are peers, they are not my Council,” he said.

The monthly meetings are fashioned after the Denver Mayor’s weekly meeting with the Denver City Council.

Bach was previously meeting with Council members one or two at a time, but he said some members of the Council felt left out of his conversations.

The topics of the Colorado Springs Mayor’s Counsel will span the gamut, but the first order of business will be to discuss a city strategic plan, Bach said.

The first meeting is Jan. 18 and will be open to the public, however members of the public will not be allowed to speak.

“It is intended for the Council and the Mayor to exchange ideas and hopefully to coalesce a better dialogue,” he said.

The Mayor announced the new monthly meetings at a monthly press conference. He said it is part of his plan to be more accessible, through meetings, social media and town hall meetings, which kick off in February.
