Four designers have been chosen to develop a new logo for Colorado Springs’ brand, “Live it Up!”
The curator team, chosen by the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, chose one extra finalist because “of the quality of the submissions.”
Chosen: Mary Cukjati of Cukjati Brand Development + Creative, Troy and Sarah DeRose of Fixer Creative, Carol Stephenson of River Rat Design and Greg Barrington of Barrington Design Studios.
Finalists were selected based on their logo portfolio, assessment of the brand strategy and a written statement about their approach to logo development.
Next, the curator team will evaluate the finalists’ logos and post them online at LiveItUpCS.com in early February. The community will be allowed to comment on the suggested logos for a week.
The CVB hired Stone Mantel last year to develop a brand and logo. Both were unveiled late last year – and both were universally panned by the community. The CVB decided to re-open the logo design to other local designers.
The brand, “Live it Up!” remains. It comes from, according to the CVB, a list of characteristics that describe Colorado Springs, including “vibrant, exceptional and rugged.”
In the final step of the process, the curator team will review community suggestions and make a final recommendation to the branding task force, which oversees the final logo and usage documents.
A final logo will be available in March.
Funny, they could’ve used “Vibrant. Exceptional. Rugged.” and done better than “Live it Up.” It just sounds so flippant.

All the designers are from Colorado! I’m impressed. The CVB heard us and see the wisdom hiring a ‘local’ to capture the spirit of our wonderful city and create a brand for us.

The Logo stinks as does the slogan … that is a given. What really has been swept under the proverbial rug is the incompetence of Price & Murphy to move forward – and expensively – with such a awful piece of work. How come these people are keeping their jobs?
The veiled attempt at a “Contest” to mollify the masses really shows arrogant contempt. By the way … “What genius approved the shooting/editing/release of that atrocious video?”
