U.S. housing starts fall 4.1 percent

U.S. housing starts fell 4.1 percent in December, 2011, a greater loss than anticipated, said Bloomberg.

The dismal December news capped a year where new construction starts were the lowest in history and signal that recovery in the construction industry will take years.

Forecasters say that new home starts will remain low, until the nation works through the surplus inventory from the foreclosure crisis.
