The state is suing ConocoPhillips to recoup more than $70 million it spent to clean up leaky underground fuel tanks, reports the Courthouse News Service.
The state said the company benefited from the pollution, while taxpayers were left with the cleanup costs. Conoco is the third largest oil company in the United States.
The state claimed that Conoco agreed to reimburse the stae for its cleanup costs using its insurance money, and then denied receiving the money.
