Mining Exchange shooting for April 15 opening, accepting reservations

The long-awaited Mining Exchange hotel will have a target opening date of April 15 – and the Wydham chain it’s a part of has allowed them to start accepting reservations for group events beginning June 1.

“We’re very close,” said catering manager Shelby Pywell. “We’re opening in phases, so the main building with 57 guest rooms and the ballroom will open first.”

Erin Smith, director of sales and marketing, says the date is tentative, based on approval from Wyndham.

Construction is still being performed on the lobby and the second-floor ballroom.

“In fact, we’re totally done with the third, fourth and fifth floors,” Pywell said. “So Wyndham has said we can start selling events.”

The official date for events is June 1, but that could change once the hotel gets closer to completion.

“As we get construction finished, we’ll move up the dates that we can accept events,” she said.

The Mining Exchange hotel is hiring for all departments and department heads in advance of their opening. For phase one, the hotel is planning to hire about 40 people for the front desk, housekeeping and banquet rooms.

The hotel, owned by Perry Sanders, has been under construction for about three years. It received a Wyndham Grand hotel designation last year. When it is finished it will have 117 rooms.
