Companies struck  nearly $10 billion in oil and gas deals across the state last year, reports the Denver Post.

The prospect of oil and gas reserves in the Niobrara formation sparked a 32 percent increase in deals from 2010,

The shale formatin stretches from El Paso County into Wyoming.
