Stock market: after four years, Dow cracks 13,000

The stock market hit a big milestone yesterday, breaking the 13,000 mark for the first time since 2008, reports the Christian Science Monitor.

Back then, Lehman Brothers was solvent, the unemployment rate was 5.4 percent and the Great Recession still loomed.

The milestone came early in the trading day – and lasted only about 30 seconds before dropping back down.

It’s a psychological achievement, but in a market based on perceptions, analysts say it could cause more cautious investors to pump money back into the stock market.
