FirstBank contributed $4.2 million to more than 1,000 nonprofit organizations across the state in 2011.
FirstBank Holding Company, the Lakewood-based holding company for the locally owned banking organization in Colorado, released the results today of its annual community investment program.
Since 2000, FirstBank has donated more than $36 million to area nonprofits.
“FirstBank invests heavily at the local level because we recognize that nonprofit organizations are integral to the social fabric of Colorado,” said John Ikard, CEO of FirstBank Holding Company. “Nonprofits are a major economic force in Colorado, and a healthy nonprofit sector makes for a stronger overall business climate — for FirstBank and all local companies. When you consider the dynamics, investing in the community is not only the right thing to do, it’s also good business.”
FirstBank partnered with the Community First Foundation to donate $500,000 to support its second annual Colorado Gives Day, a one-day online initiative aimed at increasing philanthropy in Colorado. The donation included funds to help offset credit card processing fees and $60,000 in prize money to reward nonprofits for their fundraising efforts.
That Community First Foundation program raised $12.7 million for Colorado nonprofit organizations, including more than two dozen organizations in Colorado Springs.
Habitat for Humanity Colorado, Junior Achievement, American Red Cross-Mile High Chapter, Food Bank of the Rockies and Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure are a few of the nonprofits FirstBank helped fund.
