Apple iPad sales are expected to exceed 100 million this year and eclipse desktop computer sales within a few years.
Analysts believe when Apple debuts its sharp, new, lightning-fast tablet this week, consumers will turn out in droves to purchase them, pushing sales to the milestone.
The tablet was introduced in April 2010, and this year alone about 60 million iPads are expected to be sold.
Sales of competing tablets made by Google, Toshiba and Samsung pale in comparison to the iPad. The total number of tablets sold is about 75 million.
