Paper products company fills local gap

A former Xpedx general manager is taking his knowledge about commercial paper products and starting his own business.

The Paper Hive opened this week, said owner Steve Petrohoy. The company specializes in premium paper products, delivered to businesses – it’s not a retail store.

Despite his former employer’s pull out from the local market, Petrohoy is confident of his success.

“I think there’s still a market for paper products,” he said, “especially locally. Of course, the Internet means some paper is in decline – but it won’t go away in our lifetimes.”

As for XpedX, Petrohoy says the company – whose offices are closing within a week – just is going in a different direction.

“These things are cyclical,” he said. “The whale gobbles up all the small fish – then it explodes. That means there’s lots of room for small businesses that make up the bulk of employment.”

The Paper Hive has four employees now, he said.

The new company is located at 2506 Zepplin road, and can be reached at 433-7340 or at 888-718-4483. Their website is www.thepaperhive.com.
