Staff at the new Plato’s Closet second-hand store on North Academy Boulevard is braced for a rush of hundreds of customers when the doors open at 10 a.m. Thursday.
“I think there will be quite a line,” said store owner Sharon Hoffstetter.
She started accepting gently-used recent designer clothing items, primarily for young adults, on March 1 and managed to fill the store and an additional storage facility in 42 days.
The grand opening at the 7529 N. Academy Blvd. location Thursday is three weeks ahead of the planned May 1 first date, Hoffstetter said.
“The response was incredible,” she said. “I think there was a need to be met on the north end of town and the timing was good for us with spring break.”
Hoffstetter said customers who have had a chance to see the store’s inventory as they dropped items off for sale have made requests for time off during opening day, and at least one business that has adjusted its hours so employees can attend the grand opening.
Hoffstetter said she’s not planning any additional “fanfare” for opening day so staff can focus on providing quality customer service during what is already shaping up to be a very busy first day of business.
