This year’s Salute to the Olympic Family Luncheon is on track to be bigger than last year’s inaugural event.
About 400 sports fans already have booked tickets for the event, which features basketball great Teresa Edwards, a five-time Olympian, winner of four Olympic gold medals and one bronze. She will be the guest speaker at the event, May 18, at the Doubletree, Hilton Hotel.
The luncheon is meant to honor and spotlight the presence of the United States Olympic Committee and the National Governing Bodies in Colorado Springs, said Mike Moran, Sports Corp. spokesman. Last year, 450 people attended the luncheon to hear Olympian and gold-medal winner Bonnie Blair.
This year’s event is special, he said, to help send off the 2012 United States Olympic and Paralympic teams to the games in London in July.
Edwards, in her first year as assistant coach with the WNBA’s Tulsa Shock, has been selected to serve as Chef de Mission of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team for the Games of the XXX Olympiad in London. There, she will provide overall leadership to the USA team and function as the liaison officer between the London Organizing Committee, the International Olympic Committee and other National Olympic Committees.
Tickets for the event are on sale until the week of May 15. Contact Lincoln Floyd at the Sports Corp for your reservations: 634-7333, ext. 1000, or by e-mail at email@example.com
