Behave like a Middle Market Company

The Greater Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce and EDC, in partnership with BiggsKofford and Action Coach, host “Behave Like a Middle Market Company: Change Your State of Mind to Build Company Value” from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. Cost for Chamber & EDC members is $75 for the first person from a company and then $50 per additional person from that company. Cost for non-Members is $100 per person. Prepare to defend against cyber threats

SCORE, SBA and South Metro Denver Chamber SBDC will co-sponsor a seminar addressing computer security from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce Office, 2154 E. Commons Ave., Suite 342 Centennial. Small and mid-sized businesses that network with social media are rapidly becoming the main target of hackers and cyber thieves. Businesses that network into social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and other) or simply have a web presence or swipe customer credit cards are extremely vulnerable to identity theft, data loss and other cyber disasters. Start-Up Basics Workshop

SCORE hosts a free workshop 6 to 9 p.m. at the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator, 3595 E. Fountain Blvd. to help entrepreneurs assess and document their business plans. This is the first in a series of six sessions. SCORE is a national volunteer association, sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration, providing free and confidential counseling and seminars to small businesses. Social Media for Business Series

SCORE offers a two-part series 6:30 to 8:30p.m. June 6 and 20 at the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator, 3595 E. Fountain Blvd. to help businesses use social media to promote their business. Topics include best places to be online, optimizing your website for search engines and how to integrate social media sites like Facebook with your website. PPRTA Open House

The City hosts a Pikes Peak Regional Transportation Authority Open House from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. June 7, at the City Administration Building in Suite 102. Information on the list of projects being considered, if the capital portion of the sales tax is extended with voter approval, will be available for review and comment.

The City of Colorado Springs, in partnership with Pikes Peak Community College and Pikes Peak Library District, offer a free training program from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Fire Department Complex, Printers Parkway. The goal is to offer training on a periodic basis including basic computer and Internet skills and provide awareness to electronically available government information. To sign up, call 389-8968.

Tax class

The Colorado Department of Revenue offers a three-hour business tax class from 1 to 4 p.m. regarding the laws surrounding state sales and use taxes applicable to businesses conducting sales in Colorado. This class is for new businesses in Colorado, taxpayers considering opening a business in Colorado, tax preparers consulting with Colorado clients on this topic, and/or those who need a refresher course on Colorado sales/use tax laws. Small Business Day

Small Business Day will be from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Double Tree Hotel. The event includes a Better Business Bureau interactive workshop; networking, and awards luncheon hosted by the Small Business Development Center.
