Colo. taxpayers paid for errors in Saguache County tax assessment

The Denver Post is reporting that Colorado taxpayers have over-subsidized Saguache County schools for up to a decade.

A statewide study found that the tax assessor hadn’t kept up with new construction in the county, and hadn’t added it to the tax rolls.

The lack of assessed value meant the state possibly paid tens of thousands of dollars in school funding that it otherwise would not have been required to pay.
