El Pomar issues grants to local nonprofits

Twelve Colorado Springs nonprofits received grants from the El Pomar Foundation.

The local nonprofits were among 22 recipients of grants from the foundation, which has provided grants and support to the state since 1937.

Below are the local grants:

- The American Lung Association of Colorado received a $2,500 Ackerman Fund grant to implement a new program in El Paso County.

- Centro de la Familia received a $5,000 grant for general program support.

- Colorado Springs Teen Court received a $10,000 grant for general program support.

- Colorado Springs World Arena received a $5,000 grant for military family day at the circus. The World Arena also won a competitive grant of $20,000 for military family day at the circus.

- Life Quest Transitions received a $10,000 grant for general operating support.

- Pikes Peak Community Action Agency received a $10,000 grant for general operating support.

- Year One Inc received a $10,000 grant for support for the Colorado Springs program.

- Colorado Springs Philharmonic received a $65,000 grant for the cost of the 2013 summer symphony concerts.

- Pikes Peak Community Foundation received a $3,000 grant to construct gardens at the Hillside and Meadows park community centers, and to expand a garden at the Deerfield Hills Community Center.

- Pikes Peak United Way received a $200,000 grant for administrative support of the 2011 annual campaign.

- Dream Power Animal Rescue received a $10,000 grant for general operating support.
