City hosts ‘lunch and learn’ to discuss downtown vision

The city is hosting a Wednesday lunch and learn discussion on how to make downtown better.

The event is scheduled for 12:11 p.m. to 12:49 p.m. at the City Administration Building at 30 S. Nevada Ave.  Sack lunches are welcome, but there won’t be any food served.

The event will begin with a rapid-fire five-minute presentation followed by a panel discussion. Scheduled for the discussion:  Downtown Partnership executive director Ron Butlin, EV Studio Planning’s John Olson with a “tactical urbanism” demonstration, HB&A Architects principal Andrea Barker with information about the Alley Arts Dictrict and Acacia Park redesign.

Carrie McCausland with the city will also present on the Cascade Avenue Smartscape and urban agriculture.

“We want to lay the framework for what is already happening and what could happen with some of these smaller projects,” McCausland said. “Some are smaller than a lot of the bigger discussions going on now and I could see some of these happening within the next couple years.”

She said there is a lot of energy surrounding discussions about improving downtown right now building a more urban environment.
