Diabetes drugs push Merck profits beyond expectations

Merck and Co. reported higher-than-expected second quarter earnings after more people started using two of its diabetes medications, said Bloomberg.

The company expected a downturn in profits because its asthma medicine is now facing generic competition.

Revenue climbed 1.3 percent to $12.3 billion.
