Bestway recycling center tour

Colorado Springs Office of Innovation and Sustainability hosts a lunch-n-learn at Bestway Recycling’s material recovery facility from 12:11 to 12:49 p.m. at 4005 Interpark Drive. Close-toed shoes are required. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunches. Attendees have a chance to win a door prize tote bag made from reused city banners.

Social Media for Business

SCORE offers a two-part series to help businesses use social media to promote their business from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Colorado Springs Technology Incubator, 3595 E. Fountain Blvd. room J2. Topics include: best places to be online, optimizing your website for search engines and how to integrate social media sites like Facebook with your website. Cost is $20. BBB extends deadline for GE Johnson Ethics Award

As part of the Better Business Bureau’s Night of Excellence Award dinner, three areas of corporate and academic excellence are awarded — ethics, customer service and education. The deadline for the GE Johnson Ethics Award has been extended to 5 p.m. Aug. 17, due to the Waldo Canyon fire. Applications are at http://southerncolorado.bbb.org.

This award was created to honor outstanding businesses that have made a commitment to ethical business practices in order to promote and uphold a fair marketplace. The Night of Excellence dinner is Sept. 27, at the Antler’s Hilton.

Pioneering Women

The Southern Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce hosts “Accolades Panel of Pioneering Women” at its Business Leader of the Year Award luncheon at the Mining Exchange. The lineup includes Susan Edmondson, executive director of Bee Vradenburg Foundation; Col. Karen Klingenberger, deputy surgeon general; Jan Martin, City Council president pro tem; Monya Mitchell, Century Link regional sales manager; and Cathy Robbins, El Pomar Foundation senior vice president. Government to Business Outreach

Colorado PTAC will sponsor a government to business outreach from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Colorado Technical University, 4435 N. Chestnut St. room 252. Entrepreneurs Course open house

The Small Business Development Center hosts an open house from 4 to 5 p.m. at the center, 1420 Austin Bluffs Parkway, to answer questions about the NxLevel Leading Edge: Entrepreneurs Course, which begins in September and runs to December. The course covers planning and research, management/legal structure, marketing analysis, and deal making process.
