Supermarkets try customizing prices by individual customers

It used to be than shoppers could use the same coupons at supermarkets, but now grocery store chains are trying something new, reports the New York Times.

At Safeway, customers using the chain’s loyalty cards will receive discounts based on previous purchases. The discounts aren’t the same for everyone.

Safeway added the feature this summer, and is offering personalized coupons, but said it could change prices as well.
