Report: Self-driving cars could hit showrooms by 2019

Many in the auto industry say they are close to a car design that will allow the car to drive itself, said the Chicago Tribune.

Although General Motors first introduced the idea in the 1950s, new technology makes the driverless-car more affordable and easier to manufacture.

But features such as adaptive cruise control or traffic jam assist that automatically slow or apply the brakes for a car in certain situations are already being introduced.
