Construction for new medians on Nevada Ave. between Bijou and Cucharras is underway and expected to be completed by Nov. 20, according to the city of Colorado Springs.
The downtown improvement project is part of an action plan created in 1998, the city press release said, and is being paid for by the parking enterprise. Money from the enterprise must be spent on parking-related projects. The medians will be maintained by the Parks Department.
“This will provide a safer, shorter distance for pedestrians to get across the street,” said Greg Warnke, parking administrator for the city.
Warnke said the new median will close the gap on the east and west side of Nevada, improving connectivity and encouraging development on the east side of Nevada.
The construction will not re-route traffic or close streets.
