Maxx HD Sunglasses was presented the “People’s Choice Award” at the 7th Annual Excellence in Local Industry Awards Tuesday.
For the first time in the awards’ history, attendees to the event were allowed to choose between two local companies for the People’s Choice Award. It was RT Logic, a signal processing systems company founded in 1997, up against Maxx, a company that sells high-definition sunglasses to retail shops across the country.
In an American-Idol style venue, attendees voted by text message. Maxx HD Sunglasses was the overwhelming choice with 92 votes.
This year, the Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance partnered with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs’ El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization to host the awards program.
The awards program was started seven years ago as a way to showcase trend-setting leaders in diverse industry fields, said Michael Larson, chairman of the El Pomar Institute for Innovation and Commercialization and master of ceremonies of the event.
Maxx HD Sunglasses was founded in the kitchen of Rick and Nancy Milner. The Monument-based company provides high-definition sunglasses to 20,000 retail shops, including golf pro shops across the country. Maxx also recently was awarded contracts with Major League Baseball and colleges to provide sunglasses to stadiums and colleges.
Other award winners are: Intecon was warded the Corporate Social Responsibility Award; Frontier Airlines received the Business Climate Award; Chromatic Technologies Inc. was giventhe Companies to Watch Award; Olson Plumbing & Heating earned the Pioneer Award; Pikes Peak Community College, was awarded the Local Industry Chairperson Award; and Linear Manufacturing, was awarded the Manufacturing Company of the Year Award.
