The Manitou Springs Heritage Center will open its newest exhibit Thursday at 5:17 p.m.
The new exhibit tells the story of how the installation of a pipeline for a hydro-electric plant became a famous tourist amusement for 81 years, and then was reincarnated into an even more famous location for people seeking physical challenges.
“The Manitou Incline – From Utility to Attraction” was created by Eric Swab and features photos and artifacts from 1903 to the current day. His complete Incline history book will be available for purchase and a special compilation video – including a historic film, video of the last train ride up the Incline and still photos – will be the highlight of the exhibit.
Colorado Springs Utilities is one of the financial contributors to the effort, as were donations from the Incline Friends board. Donations are still needed to cover the event costs.
The Heritage Center is located at 517 Manitou Ave., and is open from Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. T o find out more, go to www.manitouspringsheritagecenter.org.
