Craigslist, a website good for hunting down used furniture, hawking garage sale items and arranging shady dates, might also be a decent spot to list and find businesses for sale.
Marci Austin, who opened her resale clothing and jewelry boutique and local art gallery Envi seven years ago, has received three calls from interested parties since she posted her Craigslist ad Nov. 7.
“I was really surprised,” Austin said.
Her neighbor, Barracuda Bazaar, was on the market more than a year before it sold, she said.
While Envi hasn’t sold yet, there has been some promising interest. And she hasn’t even worked with a broker on the deal. In addition to the Craigslist ad, Austin sent notice out to everyone who has signed up to receive email coupons and promotions for the shop on Colorado Avenue in Old Colorado City.
Austin opened Envi because she was painting with a group of local artists and wanted a place where she could sell their more modern and unique works.
“It just sort of evolved into a clothing and jewelry boutique,” she said.
She sells quality used clothing items and a lot of locally crafted jewelry. The business has treated her well, but her life has changed since she opened the shop and it’s time to move on, she said.
“It might be a seven-year itch thing,” she said.
