Three union giants are launching an ad blitz aimed at urging Congress to avert the “fiscal cliff.”
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, National Education Association and the Service Employees International Union are launching a joint, six-figure ad buy that will air in Colorado and four other states. The groups say the advertisements are merely the “opening salvo” in the campaign to urge the current Congress to address the combination of tax cuts and tax increases that many have dubbed the “fiscal cliff.”
The campaign is targeting senators in Colorado, Missouri and Virginia and key Congressional districts in Missouri, Pennsylvania and Alaska, and the groups say they will serve as a “post-election reminder of what is at stake and what solution the American public is looking for.”
A recent poll commissioned by the three shows that Americans agree that Congress needs to protect and create middle-class jobs.
“Voters believe Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and education can and should be protected as Congress moves to get the nation’s fiscal house in order and move the country forward,” said the press release announcing the new ad campaign.
