Gov. John Hickenlooper has declared November “Hire a Veteran Month,” staging events statewide to assist veterans on a number of fronts including employment and training opportunities.
Representatives from the Department of Labor and Employment at state and country run workforce centers are offering workshops and hiring events statewide. The Pikes Peak Workforce Center will hold its annual Veterans Job Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 26. Go to www.ppwfc.org and click on Veterans.
“Colorado businesses are looking for the best employees and veterans are ideal candidates,” says Ellen Golombek, executive director of the Department of Labor and Employment. “The challenge is connecting veterans with employers and workforce centers have a track record of making that connection.”
Golombek says that more than 39,200 veterans have received employment services through their local workforce center in 2012.
“Our veterans representatives are doing a great job of getting service men and women into good jobs – and into the training that leads to good jobs,” she said.
