Colo. mass layoffs drop from 16 to 10, manufacturing sees most

Colorado had 10 mass layoffs in November, down from the 16 last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

A mass layoff involves at least 50 workers from a single employer.

Colorado employers laid off 992 workers  in November compared to 1,358 in November 2011.

Nationally, the manufacturing sector accounted for 25 percent of the mass layoffs. Within manufacturing, the number of mass layoff claimants were highest in food and machinery

Nationally, employers logged a total of 1,759 mass layoffs during November involving 173,558 workers.
