Bach hires CIO

Mayor Steve Bach has hired a new chief information officer to handle the city’s information technology projects.

Joe Palmer will join the city Jan. 21 after final approval from City Council on Jan. 8. His salary will be $128,000.

Palmer was most recently chief information officer for Jefferson County, where he oversaw a staff of 78 and budgets of up to $15.5 million.

Palmer has 15 years of experience in information technology and served in Jefferson County for five years. He specializes in strategic planning and process optimization and has experience leading multiple large-scale transformational initiative and projects that deliver critical business outcomes.

Palmer earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance from Middle Tennessee State University and an MBA from the University of Colorado. He is certified in ITLv3 Foundations (IT industry best practices that align IT services with the need of a business) and holds a project management professional certification.

    Bach hired him??? Not a hiring committee including others internally who know about the subject? That doesn’t sound right.

    I wonder if the previous person retired, left in disgust, for a better opportunity, or was removed from the position.

  3. Once again a Goal without a plan is a Wish . Maybe some day all of the useless cosmic types will have a plan and a budget to actually do something rather than spend money on more BS.
