He replaces Carol Odell, the Bureau’s current CEO of 14 years, who will retire May 3.
Barrett was most recently the chief operating officer at Graham Advertising in Colorado Springs where he is credited with leading the organization through a transitional period.
Before joining Graham, Barrett was the executive director of the Small Business Development Center in Colorado Springs for five years.
Barrett grew up in Iowa. He has a bachelor’s degree in business psychology from Nebraska Wesleyan and an MBA from Iowa State.
Barrett has lived in Colorado Springs since 2005.
In October, long-time BBB executive director Odell announced her retirement. She began her career with the BBB in 1992, serving as the director of member services. She was named to her current position in 1999.
The BBB has a current membership of 3,269. In 2012, about 800,000 BBB reports were read by consumers.
