Armed Forces Week luncheon
Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance is hosting the Armed Forces Luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at The Broadmoor hotel. The awards ceremony and luncheon will feature Gen. William Shelton, commander of Space Command, as keynote speaker. Cost is $35 for active duty, reserve component, DoD civilians, elected officials, retirees and veterans, and $55 for all others. Basics of Bookkeeping
The Colorado Springs Small Business Development Center will conduct a workshop designed to teach people the basics of business accounting. The event is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SBDC offices. Call 255-3844 to register. The fee is $40.
The Old Colorado City branch of the Pikes Peak Library District will host a library laptop lab, with staff available for help with personal projects, Microsoft Office, job applications or class work, or to provide practice materials. The laptops are available at 9 a.m. and the class is limited to 10 people. No registration is required.
Digital Camera Basics
The Sand Creek Branch of the Pikes Peak Library District will teach people the basics of using a digital camera, downloading photos to computers and accessing photos to add to other documents. Students must have a working email address for the class, which starts at 1 p.m. at 1821 S. Academy Blvd.
CSBJ Power Lunch
The Business Journal will host a power lunch addressing the Colorado Springs sports and wellness economy and its potential for future economic growth. Speakers are Mike Moran, Colorado Springs Sports Corp.; Chris Carmichael, Carmichael Training Systems; Martin Wood, University of Colorado Colorado Springs vice chancellor; and UCCS professor Tom Duening. The event is slated for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Colorado Springs Marriott, 5580 Tech Center Drive. Tickets are $27 for CSBJ print subscribers and $37 for nonsubscribers. The Colorado Springs World Affairs Council will host a discussion about U.S. combat operations in Afghanistan and the future of the conflict at 5:30 p.m. at the Antlers Hotel in downtown Colorado Springs. Lt. Col. John Dumond, who served as deputy commander of the NATO training mission, will speak at the event. Tickets are $18 for members and first-time guests, $25 for nonmembers.
