Downtown’s Bruegger’s Bagels closes

Brueggers Bagels, which had been operating at 132 N. Tejon St., has closed its doors.

breuggarsA sign posted on the door announced the store closing, effective June 15. The bagel bakery had been open since the spring of 2006.

The franchise owner, Phil Batchelor, is the one who decided to close the bakery, said Brueggar’s spokeswoman Tracy Aiello.

“The corporation will look to Colorado Springs to replace the bakery, but there aren’t any plans at the moment,” Aiello said.

The company found competition nearby in the fall of 2011, when Einstein Bros. Bagels opened at 32 N. Tejon, where it signed a 10-year lease.

  1. This is sad, but understandable. The bagels were great but they unfortunately didn’t have the greatest service and they did tend to burn my bagels more often than not, still pretty sad to see them go.

  2. That is sad to see them go. Many of times I went there in the morning to get a bagel with bacon scallion cream cheese and hot chocolate in order to be able to make it through the day.

  3. This is really sad, their bagels are so much tastier than Einsteins, but they couldnt compete in the ambiance unless they would have updated their decor. I will definitely miss them.
