The El Pomar Foundation unveiled an expansion of the El Pomar Carriage Museum to include the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The announcement happens in conjunction with preparations for the 2013 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb which is this weekend.
Free and open to the public, the museum currently features three Pikes Peak Hill Climb cars and other race memorabilia.
Details of the building, including the virtual ‘highway’ that runs through it, are on display, together with the first addition to the new museum, the Ducati Motorcycle 5.
One of a group of three special edition ‘Pikes Peak’ Multistrada 1200S models, Motorcycle 5 holds a special place in the race’s history.
2011 Rookie of the year Carlin Dunne, mounted this bike in 2012 and at a blistering pace not only surpassed his previous record, but drove the Special Edition ‘Pikes Peak’ Ducati to become the first motorcycle ever to break the 10-minute barrier, arriving at the summit of 14,100-foot Pikes Peak in 9:52:8 minutes.
