Discover Goodwill needs help from local residents to assist families recovering from devastating losses in the Black Forest fire.
The nonprofit expanded its emergency voucher services to include furniture and other household items, and is facing high demand for couches, chairs, tables, kitchenware and other common household items lost as a result of the fire.
Donations of household goods, excluding mattresses and box springs, can be dropped off at Discover Goodwill’s 1460 Garden of the Gods Rd. campus (behind Staples) or at The Springs Church located at 1515 Auto Mall Loop (former Phil Long Ford Expo Center). Community donations are accepted at both locations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Saturday. Sunday donation hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Garden of the Gods campus and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at The Springs Church. Financial contributions also can be made online at DiscoverMyGoodwill.org by clicking on the “Make a Gift” button and choosing “Fire Relief Efforts.”
Discover Goodwill has issued nearly 1,400 vouchers valued at more than $29,000 to 470-plus displaced families and individuals. Discover Goodwill is contacting fire-displaced residents who already have received clothing vouchers through El Paso County’s Disaster Assistance Center. All other fire-displaced residents in need of household items are encouraged to call 867-1118 for assistance.
