The Art Commission of the Pikes Peak Region is bringing together artists and cultural groups from around the state to examine community initiatives to engage the public in the arts. The event is from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Ivywild School.

The Space Foundation is hosting a beer-tasting and educational seminar about how space technology helps create quality beer; $24 admission at the Space Foundation’s Discovery Center. Romp in the Park
All Breed Rescue and Training is holding its Romp in the Park fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Norris-Penrose Event Center. The free event features training demonstrations, local vendors, a doggie water park and a kids corner.

Leading Edge Open House
This workshop takes place at the Small Business Development Center, 1675 Garden of the Gods Road, Suite 1107, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. It’s an open house that will give insight into the 12-week Leading Edge course using the NxLevel curriculum, also referred to as the “Entrepreneur Course,” for new business owners who need the skills to make their ideas grow. Participants develop a comprehensive business plan to act as a road map for future growth. The course will cover all elements in a business plan – planning and research, management and legal structure, marketing analysis, books and records. The workshop will be held every Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., from Aug. 13 through Nov. 19. Fees include books and materials, dinner during each session, and prepaid parking passes. Drake Study Open House
The Colorado Springs Utilities Board will host an open house about the study to decommission the Martin Drake power plant from 6 to 8 p.m. at the City Administration Building, 30 S. Nevada Ave. The board is asking for comments based on time-frames related to retirement, energy alternatives for replacement power and quantitative work metrics.
