Recently established Sundown Entertainment LLC is currently working on presenting its first live boxing event and hopes it will take place in the Springs before the end of the year, according to an Aug. 12 news release.

The Springs-based company was recently founded by Colorado natives Brandon Ortega and Nicholas Thompson, who each function as CEO/owner and have “a passion for the sport of boxing.” The release also boasts that the firm is the newest entertainment company in the region.

Ortega and Thompson got into the industry when they began a boxing radio show at UCCS in 2008 that helped them gain experience in the field. Ortega has also worked for Delgado Boxing Productions in Denver. And while at USA Boxing,  he helped organize the 2011 USA Boxing National Championships and Olympic Trials.

Both owner-operators are UCCS graduates and have attributed their success partly to the education they received at the institution.

“I strongly believe that our education and experience in the boxing industry will help us to quickly become the premier boxing promotion company in the Rocky Mountain region,” Ortega said in a statement. “For the present time we will focus on the Colorado and Rocky Mountain region, but our long-term goal is to become one of the world-class boxing promotion companies in the United States.”
