Gov. John Hickenlooper has declared a disaster emergency for El Paso County due to flooding in Manitou Springs.

The declaration will make resources available to remove debris from the flood and provide emergency protective services to the mountain town.

The governor authorized $400,000 transferred into the disaster emergency fund and the Colorado Office of Emergency Management will direct and allocate funding to address the disaster.

Hickenlooper also activated the state emergency operation plan to address flooding, requiring all state departments to take whatever action is required and directed by the emergency management office.

And if the rain continues, Hickenlooper authorized the Colorado National Guard to assist with search-and-rescue missions in the area, if necessary.

  1. Why doesn’t the govenor request that the Army Corpe of Engineers Battalion at Fort Caron take care of it. They can change the direction of the flow and build dams faster than all people can talk about it!
