Startup Weekend No. 2
Once again, the global grassroots movement comes to Colorado Springs, starting at 6 p.m. with dinner, networking and pitches for start-up business ideas. The group votes on its favorites and spends the weekend developing business plans, which are presented Sunday evening. It all happens at Epicentral, 409 N. PVG Entrepreneur Evening
Join the Peak Venture Group at 5:30 p.m. for its November gathering at Pinery on the Hill, 775 W. Bijou St. Along with the usual start-up pitches, the speaker will be David Brown of Denver-based BISLaw, addressing the dos and don’ts of fundraising. Admission $25 until Nov. 6, $30 at the door. Salvation Army Red Kettle
The Salvation Army will host its Annual Red Kettle Kick-off Breakfast from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Antlers Hilton Hotel, 4 S. Cascade Ave. Doors open at 7 a.m. and the Song Spinners will sing from 7:10-7:30. Attendees will learn how The Salvation Army is Doing the Most Good in El Paso County. The Salvation Army needs civic groups, companies, families, church groups and friends to volunteer to ring the bells to raise money to serve and help the underprivileged in El Paso County. The Colorado Springs Regional Business Alliance will host its annual gala at 6:30 p.m. at the Broadmoor International Center, 1 Lake Ave. The evening includes cocktails, dinner, live auction, music from the Broadmoor Pops Orchestra, and announcement of the winner of the Business Citizen of the Year award. Colorado Springs Ignite
The local debut of Ignite was a success in April, with rapid-fire presenters focusing on economic development efforts, and now the event returns to UCCS’ Berger Hall at 5 p.m. with a theme of arts and culture. Ten presenters will have the stage for five minutes each, with 20 slides changing every 15 seconds. Admission is free but pre-registration is required; click on “Register” at ignitecoloradosprings.org and the confirmation will provide parking and other information.
