Reak recognized

Kathy Reak, Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau director of convention sales, received the 2014 Meetings Industry Council’s Leadership Award. The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate active leadership within the meetings industry.

SBDC wins award

The Colorado Springs Small Business Development Center won the SBA 2014 Region VIII SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award. Colorado District Director Greg Lopez said, “[Executive Director] Aikta Marcoulier and her team continue to be on the forefront of disaster relief for the Colorado Springs area. When the disasters occurred, the Colorado Springs SBDC was immediately ready to assist small businesses.”

CTU employees win kudos

Two Colorado Technical University Colorado Springs employees were recognized as part of the 2013 Outstanding Volunteer Team by El Paso County. Tina Bynum, program chair of security studies and Andy Cain, CTU adjunct professor and current doctor of management student, were recognized for their volunteer efforts and contributions to the El Paso County Office of Emergency Management.

Hairstylist is the best newcomer

Veda Salon and Spas announced that stylist Alysia Torres won the Best Newcomer Award at the 2014 inaugural Colorado Hairstyling Awards last week. Judges included Sam Villa and Damien Carney and editors of Modern Salon Magazine and American Salon Magazine.

Apartment residents happy

Winn Residential Military Housing Services, the firm managing Tierra Vista at Peterson and Schriever Air Force bases, was recognized as a 2013 SatisFacts National Award Winner for excellence in resident satisfaction.

Spicher wins national award

Jeff Spicher, director of the Health Circle Primary Care Clinic at UCCS, received the outstanding faculty practice award from the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties. Spicher was nominated by Amy Silva Smith, associate professor, and Vicki Brownrigg, assistant professor, Beth-El College of Nursing and Health Sciences.

College honors Lanotte

April Lanotte of Calhan, a senior instructor at UCCS and curriculum consultant at NASA Aeronautics Research Mission Directorate and Challenger Center for Space Science Education, was recently honored with the La Roche College Distinguished Alumni Award. The award honors graduates for their professional achievements and dedication to community service.
