Penrose-st.-francisPenrose-St. Francis Health Services has achieved the Healthgrades 2014 Women’s Health Excellence Award, according to Healthgrades, the leading online resource for comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals.

The recognition distinguishes Penrose-St. Francis as a top-performing hospital in women’s health. Penrose-St. Francis is one of 178 hospitals recognized nationally for their outcomes for care provided to women for common conditions and procedures treated in the hospital. This is the sixth consecutive year Penrose-St. Francis has received this recognition.

“At Penrose-St. Francis, we place a great deal of emphasis on how we care for women in our community,” said Christine Freeman, director of Women’s Services at Penrose-St. Francis. “Our physicians and staff have an excellent understanding of the unique needs of women when they are seeking or need health care services.”

Healthgrades 2014 Women’s Health Excellence Award recipient hospitals have the potential to save women’s lives. Compared to hospitals that performed in the bottom 10 percent from 2010 through 2012, Healthgrades Women’s Health Excellence Award recipients as a group had a 55 percent lower mortality rate across eight conditions and procedures and a 21 percent lower complication rate across seven conditions and procedures.  If all hospitals nationwide performed at the level of the Healthgrades Women’s Health Excellence Award hospitals:

  • 22,737 women’s lives could have potentially been saved; and
  • 30,577 women could have potentially avoided in-hospital complications.

In addition, Penrose-St. Francis has been recognized by Healthgrades as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals for seven years in a row.
