International spot to be filmed in Springs

Bicycle shops have been a part of Colorado Springs’ business scene for more than a century, and they’re as successful as ever amid an active biking culture. Through a competitive bid process of regional production companies, the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau contracted with Windstar Studios, Inc. to produce a 30-second commercial that will air on two NBC broadcast channels as well as online during the 2014 USA Pro Challenge, Aug. 18-24, 2014.

The 30-second spot will highlight Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region as a year-round leisure destination for family fun and outdoor adventure.

“Having lived and worked in Colorado Springs for 30 years, we are honored to create a commercial that captures the beauty and lifestyle of our hometown,” said Dane Scott, president of Windstar Studios, Inc.

Doug Price, CVB president and CEO, added, “Colorado Springs is a world-class destination and one of the host cities for this world-class event.”

The commercial production and media package was partially funded by the city of Colorado Springs from the Lodgers and Automobile Rental Tax, also known as LART for $43,000, with the CVB and The Colorado Springs Sports Corporation providing the balance.

The television portion of the package includes two 30-second commercial units on NBC Sports Network daily, Aug. 18-24; two 30-second commercial units on NBC Sports Network during three of the race’s Evening Recap shows; two 30-second commercial units on the NBC flagship channel on Sunday, Aug. 24: and one 60-second “vignette” that will air on NBC Sports Network (date not yet determined). The online portion of the package includes two 30-second commercial units on Tour Tracker, daily, Aug. 18-24.

The 60-second vignette will be a human interest piece featuring Paralympic champion Allison Jones who has medaled in both paracycling and alpine skiing. Jones grew up in Colorado Springs, several blocks from the U.S. Olympic Training Center. The vignette will be produced by Classic Bicycle Racing, LLC, parent company of the USA Pro Challenge.

Colorado Springs will host the fourth stage of the event, a circuit race that will start at The Broadmoor and loop through Garden of the Gods Park and downtown Colorado Springs multiple times before concluding at the finish line on Tejon Street in downtown Colorado Springs. Referred to as “America’s Race,” the USA Pro Challenge will take place Aug. 18-24, 2014.
