Yesterday we reported that La Plata CEO Scott Smith stepped down on Dec. 31 after nearly 30 years with the company.
Doug Quimby replaced Smith as the company’s CEO. Quimby has served as La Plata’s President since 2002.
“Scott (Smith) was played a very important role in the history of Briargate, and he’s done a lot of for the community as a whole,” Quimby said. “He just decided he wanted to do other things.”
Quimby said La Plata is well-positioned for when the real estate recovery takes hold.
“It’s slow now, but we’re in good shape,” he said. “We continue to get a lot of solid local builders under contract, we don’t have a lot of debt and we have access to capital, so we’re optimistic about the future.”
Quimby estimated the company has another eight to ten years of development left on the Briargate development.
