Small commercial development at airport headed for approval

A planned commercial development near the Colorado Springs Airport is expected to be approved by the Colorado Springs Planning Commission Thursday.

The development, called South Academy Commons, would likely include retail development and a gas station, according to the planning commission application.

The application requests a zoning change and approval of a concept plan that would include one 5.3-acre lot and two 1.32-acre lots for retail development between Academy Boulevard  and Zebulon Drive, bordered to the north be Verde Drive and to the south by Chelton Road.

The application requests a zoning change for one section of the land area from office complex with airport overlay to planned business development with airport overlay, which will allow for midsize commercial retail.
