The third-annual Showcase of Retirement Communities will feature four properties dedicated to the needs of Colorado Springs’ seniors in a parade-of-homes style this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The tours allow people who are considering retirement communities for themselves or who are scoping them out for family to visit and compare properties.
Growth like that seen at MacKenzie Place, which went from 30 percent occupancy last year to 88 percent this year, is becoming more common in retirement communities, according to a press release about the event.
Event promoters credit economic recovery along with substantial growth in the retirement-age population as the baby boomers crest 65. The rising population of people over 60 in Colorado is expected to increase 49 percent by 2015 to an estimated 970,000, according to the release.
Event participants who visit all four properties can vote on the “best of” in several categories, including services and amenities, activities, and value, among others.
