March filings for unemployment insurance showed that national employers made 1,628 mass layoffs, which translates to 150,000 lost jobs. However, mass layoffs have decreased in five of the last seven months, and initial claims have decreased in six of the last seven months. Employers took 1,521 mass layoff actions in January, which resulted in 182,261 workers losing their jobs, said the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
