Memorial’s loss of income during July and August hasn’t deterred interest from for-profit hospital HealthOne. The group’s representative here in the Springs, Kevin Walker, said HealthOne is waiting on the final Request for Proposals from the city. “They’re still interested,” he said. “We’re all just waiting for the details of the RFP. Depending on what that says, [...] [...]

If we allow common sense rather than rhetoric to govern our decisions, Memorial Hospital should remain a municipal entity, with the minimal governance it has endured for years. It’s not simply that “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” or that conservatives like the status-quo, or that the older we get we fear change, but rather [...] [...]

Memorial Health System is paying nearly $1 million to move its urgent care clinic to a part of a city it says is underserved. The Springs Medical Clinic, now located on Pikes Peak Ave., just blocks from Memorial’s main campus, will move to the Kohl’s shopping center at Janitell Road and Circle Drive. Memorial officials say the [...] [...]

As the Memorial citizens’ commission deliberates the future of Memorial Health System, it might do well to explore the histories of hospital networks that have already gone through the process. While it’s difficult to draw exact parallels, the experiences of two systems offer a glimpse into what can happen when a city or county government sets [...] [...]
