The Colorado Springs Economic Development Corp. has been working with the Colorado BioScience Association to establish a chapter of the organization in Colorado Springs. The Springs currently has more than 25 companies in the biotech industry, including pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing and laboratories.
The association’s first meeting was held March 28.

Colorado State University has created a new bachelor’s degree in engineering education which will train engineers to be junior high and high school engineering and technology teachers.
The program requires students to earn an engineering bachelor’s degree with a concentration in engineering education before they can obtain their nationally accredited technology education teaching license.

Spending and hiring in the technology sector grew this year, but a third-quarter spike in tech-sector job cuts might indicate that a slowdown is under way.
Planned job cuts announced by technology firms surged 74 percent during the third quarter to 50,957, up from 29,226 during the previous quarter. That is the highest quarterly figure since the first quarter of 2005, when cuts totaled 59,537, according to a report by global outplacement consultancy Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc.

The Celebrate Technology awards showcased the best in Colorado technology by giving 12 awards for innovation, emerging venture, venture capital, breakthrough technology and manufacturing.
The ceremony was held earlier this month at the Pikes Peak Center, and roughly 300 people turned out for the event.
