While the 2-year-old University Village retail development is not yet fully occupied, several new tenants have recently signed leases, restaurants are moving in and big box retailers are eyeing the location.

Johannes Hunter Jewelers will move from downtown Colorado Springs after 23 years in the heart of the city.
The high-end jeweler is moving to University Village and will fill a retail storefront at 5182 N. Nevada Avenue, said store co-owner Linda Hunter.

BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse is scheduled to open open in a 7,700 square-foot space at the north end of the University Village shopping center Aug. 30.

Kevin Kratt of Kratt Commercial Real Estate said during December that he expected the first stores at University Village Colorado to open during the third quarter of 2009. Right on schedule, Smashburger, a Denver-based restaurant chain, will offer customers a sneak peak on Oct. 27, and open for business the next day.
